Inspire Sleep Apnea Surgical Treatment

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a widespread and disruptive sleep disorder that impacts million of Americans. It occurs when the airway becomes temporarily blocked during sleep, cutting off oxygen flow and causing interruptions in breathing. The sleeper may be unaware that they are frequently waking up to take a breath. This results in fragmented rest and poor sleep quality. Over time, OSA can cause excessive daytime fatigue, irritability, and long-term health risks such as heart disease and high blood pressure. If left untreated, it can significantly impact overall well-being, but with proper treatment, individuals can regain restful, uninterrupted sleep.

Common Sleep Apnea Treatment Options

The most common treatment for OSA is CPAP, which stands for "Continuous Positive Airway Pressure." This method involves the patient wearing a mask connected to a hose that delivers pressurized air into the airway to keep it open during sleep. Unfortunately, research indicates that nearly half of those prescribed CPAP do not use it as recommended. While other treatment options exist, such as oral appliances, they can also be cumbersome and challenging to use.

How Inspire Can Help

Inspire surgery is a mask-free revolutionary treatment option for individuals suffering from moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who have not found relief with traditional methods such as CPAP therapy or with oral appliances. This innovative procedure involves the implantation of a small device that stimulates the hypoglossal nerve, which controls the movement of the tongue and other airway muscles during sleep. By gently encouraging the airway to remain open, Inspire surgery can significantly reduce the frequency of apnea episodes, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall well-being. With its minimally invasive approach, Inspire offers a promising solution for those seeking a more effective and comfortable way to manage their OSA, allowing patients to reclaim restful nights and vibrant days.

Am I Qualified for the Inspire?

The minimum age requirement is 22 years of age. There are weight criteria that must be met. Additionally, CPAP therapy must have been attempted and found to be intolerable. All qualifications will be discussed and assessed at the patient's Inspire consultation.

Key outcomes:

  • 90% of patients’ bed partners reported soft or no snoring.
  • Patients had a 79% reduction in sleep apnea events.
  • 94% of patients prescribed Inspire treatment reported satisfaction.
  • 96% of Inspire patients say Inspire is a better, more comfortable treatment compared to CPAP and would recommend it to others.
