The Hearing Center audiologist is licensed to diagnose, evaluate,
and treat hearing disorders and communication problems. If the physician
suspects a patient is experiencing a hearing loss, an appointment
will be scheduled for you with the audiologist who will evaluate
your hearing, determine whether you have a hearing loss, and make
recommendations for hearing health care, including recommendations
for hearing
aids or other amplifying devices or methods to modify the listening
environment.
The Hearing Center at North Valley ENT provides a wide spectrum
of hearing services for adults and children:
- complete audiological evaluation, which includes:
air conduction testing
bone conduction testing
speech testing
- immittance testing, which includes:
tympanometry (measures the movement of the tympanic membrane)
acoustic reflexes (measures the contraction of the stapedius muscle
when loud sounds are presented)
- Otoacoustic
Emission Testing (OAE)
- assistive listening devices:
alerting systems (such as visual signal smoke detectors and doorbells)
personal listening systems (such as infrared TV listening systems)
- custom hearing aids
- custom-fit water protection ear plugs for patients prone to
infection, and sound protection plugs for musicians, hunters and
others regularly exposed to damaging sound levels.
In most cases, the audiologist’s services are covered by
health insurance. We encourage patients to review and understand
their insurance plans and to contact their insurance provider if
there are questions concerning benefits.
To assist the audiologist in providing you the best care possible,
you should 1) answer all health-related questions completely and
accurately and 2) ask questions to help you understand the results
of your hearing tests and the recommendations of your audiologist.
